Rune Essences: Rune essences are one of the required items that you need to rune-craft. They are obtainable by mining rune essence rocks. You can make certain kinds of runes from the rune essence depending on FFXIV Gil which ruin you go to.

Ruins: Ruins are the places that you can turn your rune essence into runes. There are many ruins that only allow you to make one certain kind of rune. For example, the Air ruin can only be use to craft air runes. It can't be made to craft other runes such as mind or fire.
